BALTIMORE (WMAR) -
The Morgan State University Board of Regents' has decided not to renew Dr. David Wilson's contract as president of the University.
The Board made the decision in a closed session meeting earlier this month, but would not comment on the exact reasoning behind their decision.
In a letter from Dr. Wilson to the Morgan community, he states that he has "committed no act of illegality, immorality or malfeasance." Wilson goes on to state that he accepted the offer at Morgan amid other job opportunities, against the advice of his friends and mentors, because he believed in the mission of the University.
The letter goes on to say "I am even more distressed and disheartened that it appears that I am also being punished for allegedly having my name uttered from the lips of some unknown "White House official" for an opportunity with the Obama administration, when I did not even know about such thoughts."
Dr. Wilson's contract ends on June 30, 2013. There is no word on a replacement.
