A 21-year-old Morgan State University student died suddenly after collapsing during a workout in a campus gym Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1700 block in E. Cold Spring Lane around 8:45 p.m. for the report of a man who had collapsed.

Baltimore Police said that the man, identified as Dmitri T. Clemons, of Silver Spring was running on a treadmill inside Edward P. Hurtz gym when he collapsed to the ground.

Clemons was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m., police said. Clemons was a Senior at Morgan where he was majoring in civil engineering.

This is the second student death to hit the campus this week. Marcus Edwards, 21, was stabbed to death Monday night on Loch Raven Boulevard.

In the wake of another student death, the university's Vice President of Student Affairs Kevin Banks released a statement saying in part, "He had many friends and a loving family. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

The statement goes on to remind students that the counseling center and university chapel are available to those looking help dealing with the loss.

Baltimore police detectives are investigating, but do not suspect foul play. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
