The Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters United (MOMS) are tired of the gun violence in Maryland. They held a rally in downtown Baltimore to share stories and call for an end to the bullets.
Members of MOMS gathered at War Memorial Plaza for an Operation Cease Fire Initiative and shared pictures of their children, lost to gun violence in Baltimore.
The ceasefire centers around five points Michael Williams, an admitted former drug dealer who now works to end violence, constructed, including retalitary shootings and an end to open-area shoot outs.
Williams said he uses credibility he built after years on the streets to get people to listen.
"These five points have actually been endorsed by guys in the streets," Williams said.
As of Tuesday evening, there had been 47 homicides in Baltimore, compared to 33 at the same time last year.
Williams said progress takes time.
"Today will be the kickoff," he said. "For me, tomorrow, I'm on the ground" in the Sandtown neighborhood of west Baltimore.
MOMS is a community-based organization that assists families touched by gun violence in the healing process.
