The stigma of mental health has been a tough part in treating it, but MedStar Health is hoping to change that.

Starting Thursday, people will be able to use the behavioral center in it's new location.

It is now at MedStar Harbor, right next to the entrance of the emergency room.

Dr. Elias Shaya, the Medical Director for Behavior Health MedStar North, says the new facility will treat a part of society and our community that is often forgotten.

"There has unfortunately been a tremendous void and this is a rare opportunity and a rare moment. I have to say in our society and our community in general, that we are focused on behavioral health that need of patients with mental health and patients with addiction those are patients that have been ignored for a very long time," Dr. Shaya said.

The new inpatient facility will have 26 beds, but if the need grows it can accommodate up to 40 beds.
