Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore police commissioner Kevin Davis held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the judge's decision to declare a mistrial in the case of Officer William Porter.

In response to the declaration of mistrial, Davis said that it's part of the process in the American criminal justice. He said that everyone needs to respond the criminal justice system and that the police department certainly does.
"We have to be consistent, measured, and thoughtful as we go forward," Davis said.
Davis said that the community needs to come together to promote public safety. He said Baltimore police have many strategies in place throughout the city to ensure that peace is kept.
Officer William Porter remains suspended without pay, Davis said.

In an effort to keep the peace Tuesday night, Davis said he will join faith groups and leaders in West Baltimore.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake also urged the public to respect the justice system.
"We have to respect to the process," Rawlings-Blake said.
She went on to say that justice is a process that we have to protect. She commends the 12 Baltimore City residents who served on this jury and said that if residents want the trial to remain in Baltimore, they must respect the process.
She ended by saying that Baltimore City is prepared; no one is on edge.
