The Maryland Zoo is one step closer to hatching it's 1,000th penguin.

This is the fourth chick of this breeding season and the 991st in the zoo's history.

The first two chicks of the season hatched at the end of October and the third last month.

All the chicks will stay behind the scenes for a few months until their juvenile feathers grow and they pass their swimming lessons.

If the zoo makes it to 1,000 chicks this season, they'll be the first zoo or aquarium in North America to do so.
