Two male cheetahs have arrived at the Maryland Zoo from San Diego.

Refu and Wgasa were born at the San Diego Safari Park in July 2014. They moved to The Maryland Zoo at the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Cheetah Species Survival Plan.

Cheetahs, the world's fastest land mammal, are the most endangered cat in Africa. The breed is facing extinction due to habitat loss, the illegal wildlife trade and human-wildlife conflict, zoo officials said.

The zoo has partnered with the Cheetah Conservation Fund to support conservation efforts.
