The holidays are full of celebrations, and with those parties come a lot of adult beverages.

Uber and MADD and working together to make sure you have a safe ride home.

"Each and every year we see more fatalities between the Thanksgiving and New Year's stretch," MADD Maryland Program director Lisa Spicknall said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 1,200 alcohol-related crashes around the holidays.

Statewide, the numbers aren't changing either.

"Last year in Maryland we had 162 fatalities for the year and we're seeing this same trend this year," Spicknall said.

It's no surprise crashes increase around the holidays--- there are the parties and get togethers that involve friends, family and alcohol.

"Crashes are 100 percent preventable we can prevent these impaired driving crashes simply by taking that sober right home," Spicknall said.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Uber have teamed up to raise awareness about sober rides.

"You pay for your Uber ride home, you go to your Uber app you select it you choose a car, they'll come right to you, they'll pick you up and they'll take you where you need to be," Spicknall said.

The U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism says 40 percent of traffic related deaths during Christmas and New Year's involve drunk drivers.

"Families are devastated by crashes. We have a lot of families saying there's always that empty place at the table especially around the holidays," Spicknall said.
