In the last few months, the U.S. has been hit by hurricanes in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. All those areas are still in recovery. Now local emergency responders are returning home with the stories of devastation.

On Wednesday at City Hall, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh honored the city's emergency management crew with medals for their efforts.

The elite team was sent to Florida to run the base camp where first responders slept, ate, and showered. Two weeks of these men and women's lives went to rebuilding the lives of those after Hurricane Irma. They came back to Maryland with heartbreaking stories. "Seeing all of the families who were sitting in their front yard with nothing just trying to figure out what to do next," said Brian Bovaird, director of operations, city emergency management.
