A Baltimore Police officer accidentally shot himself in the wrist when responding to a carjacking in Cherry Hill Wednesday night, police said.

The officer remains in the hospital, but is in good condition.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Cherry Hill. The officer, a detective, and another plainclothes detective pulled over a vehicle believed to be connected to an earlier carjacking in Federal Hill.

Police initially said neither officer fired their weapons.

Police said Thursday afternoon there are three persons of interest identified.

Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith said three male suspects had committed an armed robbery of two women who were leaving their car and demanded their keys and their purses.

Smith said carjackings are up across the city, and many times the stolen cars are used in other crimes.
