BALTIMORE - Firefighters in Baltimore had their hands full with a fire in Fells Point at a liquor store Thursday.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke. About 30 minutes later as they battled the fire, they had to evacuate the building.
Officials say the fire broke out at around 5:30 a.m. Chief Kevin Cartwright with the Baltimore Fire Department says the first floor of the building located on the 1700 block of Feet Street contained the liquor store. Two other floors above appeared to be vacant.
"We had the partial roof collapse, and the incident commander at that point in time ordered all members out into an exterior attack just for the safety of the members that were fighting the fire," Cartwright said. "There were no life-threatening hazards inside-- any civilians or anything of that nature."
One firefighter was taken to the hospital as crews battled smoke and flames on all three floors of the building. Officials say they do not believe the firefighter's injures to be life-threatening.
There is still no word on what may have caused the fire.
