In the last Baltimore City Council meeting before the newest members take their seats, the Council addressed a bill aimed to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples'/Italian Americans Day.
The Council voted seven in favor, six against with two abstentions. Eight votes in favor were required to pass the bill.
The bill proposed changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day a trend taking place in several cities across the U.S.

Councilwoman Rikki Spector was adamant about keeping the holiday's name intact.
"Why take something that was so helpful and so good, something good away?" Council member Rikki Spector said.
Almost every member spoke up about the bill Monday night, making it a tough decision for the outgoing council.
