BALTIMORE - Maryland’s newest casino is set to open on Tuesday.
The Horseshoe Casino, which is located on Russell St. will be the fifth to open in Maryland. A sixth casino is being planned by MGM in Prince George's County. Other casinos already open in Maryland include Maryland Live! in Anne Arundel County, Ocean Downs in Ocean City, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and the Rocky Gap Casino in western Maryland.
The Horseshoe Casino will feature 122,000 square feet of gaming space, two celebrity chef restaurants, live entertainment venues, and Maryland's only World Series of Poker Circuit tournaments, casino officials said.
Among the amenities planned for the casino, celebrity chefs John Besh and Aarón Sánchez will open a taqueria named Johnny Sánchez. The casino will also be home to Guy Fieri's Baltimore Kitchen & Bar, Ruby 8 Noodle and Sushi Bar, and Jack Binion's Steakhouse, executives said.
Gambling funds have become a large stream of revenue in Maryland. According to state figures, Maryland casinos generated nearly $53 million in July and more than $348 million for the years with funds dedicated for education, horse racing purses and local communities among other areas.
