We're all connected -- from the Chesapeake Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. A new mural in an alleyway in Highlandtown celebrates that.
It shows us that even though our cultures might be different, water is important to all of us. The idea came together through a partnership between the Healthy Harbor Initiative, Highlandtown Main Street Program, and the local business association.
College students also volunteered to help with the creation.
"When the students can participate and they really give them stake in the work and an understanding of how to highlight some of our assets and work together and learn about what happens to the trash in the street and what are the clean water issues happening around us," said Leanna Wetmore, a member of the Healthy Harbor Initiative.
Half a dozen alleyways have been made over, and the team is planning to do a few more.
An unveiling party for the Highlandtown alley will happen May 5.
