A grease fire broke out at Pimlico Race Course on Friday before the gates opened for Black-Eyed Susan Day.

There were no reported injuries and racing proceeded as scheduled on Pimlico's second-biggest day of the year.

The fire started about 9 a.m. in a fried-chicken stand on the first floor of the grandstand and was extinguished by the time the Baltimore fire department responded. Smoke filtered upstairs to a media area. Industrial fans dispersed the smoke.

The fire was first reported by the Daily Racing Form.

The $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies is the distaff companion event to the Preakness on Saturday.
