The More Jobs for Marylanders Act of 2017 has two focuses: to promote small businesses and bring in jobs.

Governor Larry Hogan announced the new legislation while touring Marlin Steel Wire Products in Southwest Baltimore. He said that over the past two years, manufacturing jobs in particular have seen a jump in mid-Atlantic states.

However, in Baltimore City, the lower Eastern Shore and Western Maryland, unemployment rates are still low.

"We want to provide specific incentives for them and incentives for others across the state to create more jobs and to make it easier for manufacturers to grow," Gov. Hogan said. "When you invest in that equipment that means you're going to hire more people. We're going to give you tax breaks on those people to incentivize you to hire more folks."

Gov. Hogan said he's confident the bill will result in thousands of new jobs. It's expected to be introduced to the General Assembly soon.
