The eighth annual adoption promotion to find homes for unwanted cats and kittens will kick off Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cat Hospital at Towson located at 6701 York Road.

June is national Adopt-A-Cat month. Five adoption centers will be at the kick-off on Saturday, and all will be waiving their adoption fees.

The promotion, Baltimore 500: A Race to Save Lives, aims to give homes to at least 500 unwanted cats or kittens during the month. Last year, 805 cats and kittens were adopted. Since its introduction in 2009, Baltimore 500 has seen 4,695 adoptions.

Participating members include Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Baltimore Humane Society, the Maryland SPCA, Baltimore County Animal Services and the Humane Society of Harford County.

All members of the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance will be waiving their adoption fees for cats and kittens for the month of June.

All cats and kittens available for adoption are spayed or neutered and vaccinated, according to their age.

Baltimore 500 adopters will receive a voucher for a free exam for their cat or kitten and a toy for their new pet.
