In celebration of National Agriculture Day, students at Frederick Douglass High School planted flowers Tuesday.

Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford and Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder were there to help plant enough flowers for each student to take home on Mother's Day.

Rutherford said the event educates students about the growing process and the agricultural field.

"The governor and I want to make sure that the folks in Baltimore City, in particularly the kids, understanding the importance of agriculture to not only our economy, but to the nation's economy," Rutherford said.

The lieutenant governor added that he hopes this encourages students to pursue careers in agriculture.
