Former NAACP president Ben Jealous announced a run for Maryland governor Wednesday.

Jealous tweeted a campaign ad to followers saying he’s “making an exciting announcement.” In the ad, Jealous discusses his campaign to create opportunities for Marylanders.

“Ben Jealous is running for governor because he believes we can do much better by our children, and he's seen how fast our state can move forward when we have the right leadership,” his campaign said in a news release. “As Governor of Maryland, Jealous will protect Obama's legacy, bring Bernie's dreams into reality, and build a future that harnesses the hopes of all Marylanders."

Jealous served as the national president of the NAACP from 2008 to 2013 at the age of 35, making him the youngest ever to hold that position.
