Fire truck ads closer to a reality

BALTIMORE (WMAR) - Advertisements on the sides of Baltimore City fire trucks is now one step closer to becoming a reality.

Baltimore City Council approved the bill. With three local fire companies facing closures, Councilman Pete Welch proposed the idea in order to raise money.

Welch says he's already had a few calls from healthcare providers interested in advertising. He says it would be done tastefully.

"If you limit it to one ad per truck, then it gives an increase dollar amount for exclusivity of the ad on that particular truck and it makes the advertiser a hero," says Councilman Welch.

They hope to raise $6 million to prevent the closures. With tonight's vote they'll set up a committee to determine who will get the requests and the size and look of the ads.
