Baltimore has been talking about a bullet train for over a year, which would connect Baltimore to Washington D.C. in a matter of minutes.

Now, Elon Musk is blowing that plan out the window as he starts to work on a Hyperloop between New York and D.C.

Musk posted a video showing a test of the vacuum sealed Hyperloop concept that is already taking shape in Maryland.

He already has permits to dig underneath current highways in the state, including some in Anne Arundel County, and he plans to start near Fort Meade. Then the Hyperloop will follow the Baltimore Washington Parkway for 10 miles.

Once the Hyperloop is completed, travelers could go from New York to D.C. in only 29 minutes.

The first part of the transit system will eventually stop in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and end in New York.

The way it works is you drive in your car, pull up to a special space that looks like an elevator, and it lowers you to an underground tunnel.

The car is sitting on what they call a 'skate' that speeds the car forward, which can go in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Musk has verbal government approval for this project, and Governor Larry Hogan toured a gated construction site with 'The Boring Company' on Thursday in Hanover for the project.

This project is not expected to take much, if any, government funding and is pitched as a low-cost way to travel.
