DPW: Foot traffic open after sinkhole

BALTIMORE (WMAR) - The Baltimore City Department of Public Works is continuing their work on the East Monument Street sinkhole, and say the area has been reopened to foot traffic.

Officials announced today that North Patterson Park Avenue to North Montford Street is open to foot traffic, but the street will remain closed to vehicle traffic until the construction is complete.

Water service has also been suspended for the even side of Monument Street, due to a compromised sewage line.

"Similar to Light Street, we are taking a holistic approach to the Monument Street repairs," said Public Works Director Alfred Foxx. "Our goal is to reduce any future sewer backups or breaks by replacing the infrastructure in the two-block radius."

DPW has estimated that it will take about 3 months to access and replace the damaged storm drain pip and water main, and upgrade the sewer line.
