Downtown Partnership of Baltimore requests increased police presence

The Board of Estimates is expected to vote on a request from the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore to increase nightly police presence at the Inner Harbor.

Three officers and a sergeant would be paid $45 and $50 an hour for working overtime.

The Downtown Partnership will reimburse the city for each officer on patrol.

The city has experienced an increase in violent crime in the Inner Harbor and Charles Street areas.

Police officers would be on foot patrol starting at 6 p.m. until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

If approved by the Board of Estimates, the agreement would take effect immediately,
