BARCS isn't taking any new dogs right now because a dog they recently brought in tested positive for canine distemper.

The sick dog is in quarantine and the majority of the dogs in the shelter are as well. They're all under medical supervision until they are given a clean bill of health.

There are about 10 dogs who aren't affected and are available for adoption. They are being housed in a separate facility from the dogs in quarantine.

Cats and people are not at risk of contracting canine distemper.

Cats at BARCS are still available for adoption and are not at risk to contract or spread this disease. If you are interested in adopting a cat, visit BARCS, adoption fees are waived.
