BALTIMORE, Md. - A Baltimore defense attorney on Wednesday formally entered the race for Baltimore City State's Attorney.
Russell A. Neverdon Sr. launched his campaign in front of family, friends and other supporters during a media event outside the Mitchell Courthouse.
"After years of witnessing a dramatic increase of violent crime, escalating recidivism and a backlog of court cases due to inefficient prosecutions, I feel it necessary to become a part of the solution by offering the citizens of Baltimore a clear alternative to the way our criminal justice system is headed under the current administration," said Neverdon, 46, in a statement. "I want to help save the city that raised me to be the man I am today."
Neverdon, who grew up in West Baltimore, is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Morgan State University and the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. The married father of six and grandfather of three also served in the Army National Guard and currently owns his own private law
Neverdon is trying to unseat current State's Attorney Gregg Bernstein, who was elected to his first term in office in 2010.
