14 homes burned in 3-alarm East Baltimore blaze

Baltimore Fire crews battled a 3-alarm fire in East Baltimore Tuesday morning that burned 14 homes.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., crews responded to the 100 block of S. Eaton Street in Highlandtown for reports of a house fire. Firefighters arrived to find three homes emitting heavy fire and smoke.

Units worked to extinguish the blaze, but it spread and consumed 14 rowhomes, according to fire officials.

No was was injured. The fire has been placed under control.

S. Eaton Street is closed between Lombard Street and Pratt Street. Traffic is being detoured.

No word yet on what caused the blaze. Fire investigators estimate more than $200,000 in damages. 

The American Red Cross of the Greater Chesapeake Region dispatched volunteers to meet with families and assist with recovery. Thirty-one residents were assisted, the Red Cross said.
