The Metro Subway will partially shut down for three weeks starting Friday at 8 p.m. as construction begins on the rail line.
Through August 14, station stops at Reisterstown Plaza, Rogers Avenue and West Cold Spring will be closed for what the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) called “critical maintenance” of the rail system.
Subway service will resume on August 15.
Free local and express shuttle buses from Milford Mill Station south to Mondawmin Station will service the affected station stops in both directions. Shuttle service will run at 10, 20 and 30-minute intervals depending on the time of day.
MTA is urging customers to plan ahead, as up to an extra hour of travel time could be added on to the commute in both directions.
During construction, service will continue from Owings Mills to Milford Mill and Mondawmin to Johns Hopkins Hospital. MTA said maintenance work will include reconstructing rail lines, rail replacement, track maintenance, cleaning and other station improvements.
"MTA is doing everything it can to minimize the inconvenience our customers will experience during these necessary repairs," MTA Deputy Administrator Suhair Al Khatib said in a news release. "Nothing is more important than our customers' safety, so we ask our riders to plan ahead while we complete this critical rail work that will enhance the safety, efficiency and reliability of our service."
