After more than a decade of work, community groups and developers say they are ready to move forward on the "State Center" redevelopment project in West Baltimore.
One of the project's last major hurdles was checked off as the community benefits agreement was signed. The project would transform 28 acres of West Baltimore into business space and about 2,000 new homes.
The state still needs to sign off on the project, because a state-owned parking garage is involved.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and candidates vying for her job, are calling on Gov. Larry Hogan to give his blessing.
"This is what community economic development looks like. This deserves the support. This deserves to move forward," Rawlings-Blake said.
"Help us move this project forward. This is significant to the future of Baltimore," Sen. Catherine Pugh said.
"This is what we're talking about when we say One Baltimore. We all can come together. We all can build a greater city, and it starts right here with State Center," City Councilman Nick Mosby said.
The project's developer said it would create 8,000 new jobs in Baltimore.
