A life lost too soon. That's how those who knew Marcus Edwards describe him.

Hundreds gathered at Morgan State University Wednesday to remember him.

Edwards was killed in an off campus stabbing, his body found just a mile from campus. Now the community is grieving and wants answers.

Those who knew him well said to know Marcus was to love him. But they can't understand why anyone would want to hurt someone who would do anything for those he cared for.

"He was a bible scholar and scholar here at Morgan," said professor Pia Jordan.

A long time friend, Leonard Wood, said, "We watched him grow up and he was a great kid."

"He literally was like a brother to me, like I would do anything for him," said Malachi Ashley.

Hundreds of others feel the same about the 21-year-old student who wanted to be a police officer.

Walter Kennedy, Edwards' Godbrother, wants justice and has this plea for the community.

"All I want to say is if you know something, please say something," he said.

For many who attended the vigil, it was the first step to healing.

"Literally I was just with him Thursday. Literally we were just in class all together and I sit right next to him. We talk, we joke. I'm just heartbroken," Ashley said.
