Baltimore City school commissioners have voted to close four schools at the end of the school year.

Westside Elementary, Maritime Industries Academy High, Baltimore Community High and the Maryland Academy of Technology and Health Sciences are set to shut down after officials evaluated factors including academic performance, attendance and how the school building is being utilized.

The school board made the decision at a meeting Tuesday night.

City schools CEO Gregory Thornton recommended the closure of a fifth school, Roots and Branches Charter School, however that decision will be made after further study.
