West Central Baltimore is set to become the city’s first Innovation District, and city leaders will launch their efforts to solve the area’s social and economic challenges Monday morning.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Congressman Elijah Cummings will announce the intention behind Innovation Village, which supporters said will create community wealth through access to capital, talent, real estate and business opportunities.

Established businesses will partner with tech start-ups through the initiative, creating jobs and revitalizing part of the town hit hardest by last year's unrest.

The announcement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Coppin State University.
