BCCC board ousts President Williams

The Baltimore City Community College board of trustees announced Tuesday that president Dr. Carolane Williams will no longer be working for the school.

In a press release, the board stated Dr. Peggy Bradford, current vice president for academic affairs, will serve as the interim president.

"We are very grateful for Dr. Williams' years of service to Baltimore City Community College," said board chair Dr. Rosemary Gillett-Karam. "The board strongly believes that the time is right for a leader who will bring new urgency to our urban educational mission. During this difficult economy, at a time when technology and job skill requirements are rapidly changing, we owe it to our students and to our city to continue to strive for excellence."

A national search for a new president begins immediately.

BCCC enrolls about 20,000 credit and non-credit students. Since its founding in 1947, BCCC has graduated more than 30,000 people.
