Mother's Day is this Sunday, but Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wanted to recognize some moms in our community ahead of time.

The mayor held the 10th annual luncheon recognizing "Baltimore's Top Neighborhood Moms" at the Forrest Park Clubhouse on Hillsdale Road. 17 women were recognized for their efforts to make their communities safer and stronger. The mayor said these women are unsung heroes for many people.

"Women that we're celebrating today go above and beyond not just what they do for their family, but what they do in our neighborhoods," Rawlings-Blake said. "Whether it's taking young people under their wing, taking people to doctors appointments or the grocery store pr starting programs for kids, it's been my honor to shed a light on these women."

The mayor says this celebration makes Mother's Day a week-long event in allowing these moms to take a break and be appreciated for what they do for their families. The honorees were treated to a lunch and a performance from a local opera singer.
