BALTIMORE - In just two months the winter Olympics begin in Sochi, Russia. This year the luge event will have an unusually high level of interest for the Baltimore City Fire Department.
That's because the daughter of a city firefighter will be sliding down the course at speeds upwards of 80 miles an hour.
She got her big send-off Thursday.
Pass by the station house for Engine 29 in northwest Baltimore and you'd have no idea that it's associated with not one, but now two Olympic families.
The more familiar name would be Kimmie Meissner, whose brother is a firefighter at the station. But Thursday, the cameras were focused on another young lady with the less than perfect name for a winter Olympian: Summer Britcher.
