Baltimore zoo seeking help naming 2 lion cubs

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Zoo wants help naming two lion cubs.

Members of the public have through next Thursday to vote for the cubs' names on the zoo's website. Zoo officials came up with four pairs of names for the brother and sister. They include Luke and Leia, after the siblings from "Star Wars," and Bart and Maggie, after the siblings from the television show "The Simpsons." As of Thursday, voting favored Luke and Leia, which had 43 percent of the vote.

The cubs were born in early October and are the first lion cubs to be born at the Maryland Zoo. Their mother died days after giving birth.

The zoo announced Wednesday that a female lion cub named Zuri from a Miami zoo will also be raised with the pair.
