The Baltimore Teachers Union, The American Federation of Teachers, Baltimore Public Schools, and the Mayors Office announced the results of the Baltimore Schools for Baltimore Students: Bringing Back Baltimore One Child At A Time program.
The five-week program's goal is to help boost enrollment in Baltimore City public schools.
From June 19 to July 21, advocates knocked on more than 34,000 doors in hopes to get more children in school.
The results say 329 new students enrolled in pre-k and 17 former drop-outs are now re-enrolled.
“These results are a testament to the commitment of our 40 educators who served as B3 Advocates. They braved scorching heat, thunderstorms and some of our most challenging neighborhoods to speak with parents, guardians, and youth about diverse programming and benefits of enrolling in Baltimore City Public Schools. Our advocates are truly the backbone of the B3 Program,” said BTU President, Marietta English.
English also says she hopes to be able to check back in with the students the teacher’s union was able to get enrolled or re-enrolled.
