Baltimore police want you to be safe this Halloween.

Extra officers will be on foot and in patrol cars across the area.

Here are their recommendations on how to have a safe and fun Halloween:

  • Have plan to get home: Take an Uber or have a designated driver if needed.
  • Stay on the sidewalks.
  • Watch for car traffic.
  • Put cellphones away so you can pay attention to where you're going.
  • Drive slow if you're coming or going during prime trick or treat hours.
  • Check all candy before your child eats it.
  • Note: Police have made sure all registered sex offenders will have "No Candy" signs posted on their doors. Their porch lights will be turned off.

Police are also offering these tips to keep your pet safe:

  • Keep all candy away from pets. Chocolate can be harmful to dogs.
  • Do not approach a pet without asking their owner first.
