Baltimore police are cracking down on dirt bike riders in Baltimore City. The department announced Thursday the formation of a dirt bike task force, which will focus on investigating crimes involving those vehicles.
"We consider this to not only be a safety issue for those who engage in this behavior, but obviously, then that does correlate to how other pedestrians and other citizens in Baltimore City can be affected by these types of illegal activities," said Charles Blomquist, Assistant State's Attorney. "Because of that we are going to pursue this as aggressively as we possibly can in the courtroom."
Possessing and riding a dirt bike in Baltimore is illegal. Police say the dirt bike culture is tied with gun offenses, which is another reason why offenders need to be investigated.
Officers cannot engage in a dirt bike chase through the streets -- and that rule will not change with this task force. That's why police are asking for help in locating dirt bike riders.
