The Baltimore Museum of Art is opening its doors Friday for the first-ever “Art After Hours” soiree.

BMA’s Friday night at the museum marks the first in a series of after hours events aimed at attracting new art lovers and engaging longtime visitors.

According to Anne Brown, Director of Marketing and Communications, the museum just completed renovations in October and had such a huge response at their 100th anniversary gala after party in November 2014 that they decided to keep the festive momentum going.

They also wanted to reel in a new crop of art-minded young professionals.

“We thought there would be interest in an after hours event particularly for young people who work during the day,” Brown said.

Each ticketholder will experience the museum’s collection as well as the “art of food,” Brown says, with biscuit and beer samples from Blacksauce Kitchen and Waverly Brewing Company respectively, and a chance to create a custom spice rub with Haute Mess Kitchen Sublime Savories. Food and beer will be available for purchase, and live music warm up museumgoers.

“Imagining Home,” the museum’s current exhibit featuring interactive pieces on home and family, will be open all evening and visitors will have an opportunity to collaborate. Baltimore-based artist Marian April Glebes will guide guests as they build a giant pillow fort using hand-made materials.

“Many people have memories of building forts at home,” Brown says. “We’re reimagining that nostalgia and making it fun for everybody.”

Sadly, if you haven’t already purchased tickets for Friday, you won’t get another chance. This month’s “Art After Hours” event is official sold out, but future parties at the museum have been scheduled for Friday, March 18 and Friday, May 13.

Brown says staffers are ecstatic about the community’s overwhelming response to BMA’s first party series.

“I would love to see more people come to the BMA and discover what a fun place this is and the many amazing things you can do and be inspired by this art collection,” she said.
