BALTIMORE - With the holiday season upon us, Baltimore prepares to light up the holidays.
The 42 nd annual lighting of Baltimore's Washington Monument will be held Thursday evening. The Holiday Village opens at 5 p.m. and the lighting will take place at around 7:45 p.m. at Mount Vernon Place.
Each year, more than 5,000 people attend the Monument lighting. The lighting, entitled "A Monumental Occasion" features food, holiday activities and a fireworks and laser show.
In addition, there will be a special family area where kids can get their picture taken with Santa.
Baltimore Raven Chris Canty will join Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to flip the switch that lights the Monument and starts the fireworks display.
