The grades are out and the Healthy Harbor Report Card giving Baltimore waterways mostly failing grades.
According to the report card, the Harbor slightly improved in 2016 receiving a grade of 53. That’s a 2-point increase from the 51 it received a year prior. However, the overall Baltimore Harbor was graded an “F”.
“We still have a long way to,” said Adam Lindquist, the Director of Healthy Harbor. “We have seen improvements in our data points and we’re moving in the right direction.”
The report showing that some of the city’s biggest problems were fecal bacteria, storm-induced pollution and low water clarity. Lindquist stating that the most important thing the organization is working towards is repairing and upgrading the storm drains and sewer systems as quickly as possible.
“The city has a plan to repair that sewer infrastructure and do some really major projects by 2020,” said Lindquist. “We need to make sure that they’re held accountable to those project.”
