The opening of a new commercial kitchen in Baltimore is expected to bring more than 150 jobs in its first five years.
The Baltimore Food Enterprise Center (BFEC) opening on Tuesday will provide production and teaching facilities that will help create new jobs, give job training, and support aspiring food entrepreneurs.

The center was created by the Historic East Baltimore Community Coalition (HEBCAC) and Humanim Inc. HEBCAC planned, designed, raised money, and built the building while Humanim Inc. is responsible for the programming at the center.
“We are proud to launch this project and anticipate that it will have a significant impact on the economic growth of east Baltimore and its residents,” commented Edward Sabatino, HEBCAC’s Executive Director. “This project is the latest in a series of successful commercial redevelopment projects lead by HEBCAC and further underscores our commitment to creating neighborhoods that thrive in east Baltimore.”
The BFEC is in the 1700 block of Llewelyn Ave in east Baltimore. Funding for the center came from a combination of local, state, and federal funding as well as local private foundations.
