Family members of Christopher Yancey, 33, are trying to move forward after police say he was stabbed to death inside Johns Hopkins Hospital on Friday.
Yancey's wife, 30-year-old Anita Nicole Jones, was charged in the killing.
"I don't know how to do this," said Yancey's mother Christine Ware, "I'm mourning for my son. I miss my son."
Ware says the family will now be taking care of the 6 children Yancey and Jones had together. Family members say Yancey has a total of 9 children.
"All I gotta do is live for my grandchildren, keep them happy and safe," said Ware.
Police said Yancey and Jones were at the hospital on Friday as their 14-year-old son was undergoing a medical procedure. The couple got into an argument over the boy's treatment, before Jones stabbed Yancey multiple times, according to officers. Police say Jones announced to hospital staff that Yancey had stabbed himself, before she tried to leave the building. She was later arrested.
"One of the glaring things that lead us down the path of this being a homicide was the fact that there was no weapon in the room," said Baltimore Police Chief T.J. Smith. "There was no reason to believe that anyone else had committed this crime."
Yancey's brother, Paul Ray, says he being there for his kids was typical.
"Where it happened at, he was there by his son's side. That's how he always was," said Ray.
Now Ray, his mother and sister are determined to be there for the family, which is still in the dark on exactly why Yancey was killed.
"Its hard. It's real hard. As long as we make sure the kids are good, we'll feel better because that's what my brother would have wanted," Ray said.
