Baltimore City Schools CEO Gregory Thorton sent a letter to parents Monday cautioning about possible civil unrest following a verdict in the trial of Officer William Porter.

Thorton stated that the city is "taking every precaution to ensure the security of our schools and the safe transportation of students."

The letter continues asking parents to encourage students to "act responsibly and safely in the event that disorders occur."

Thorton closes the letter by reiterating that the safety and security of schools is the primary priority.
