Baltimore City Public Schools announced a reduction in force Thursday.

According to Edie House Foster, public information manager, the reduction in force was necessary due to a significant budget gap.

The school system released the following statement:

Due to a significant budget gap, Baltimore City Public Schools has made the difficult decision to implement a reduction in force. We are working to address the reduction with compassion and care for the entire City Schools community, especially those who will be separating. More information will be shared with the public after affected employees are informed on Tuesday, May 31.
