10-year-old Logan Wilks of Baltimore is officially a hero. Mayor Catherine Pugh and Chief Niles Ford presented him a certificate of Heroism on Wednesday, just a couple weeks after he saved his stepmother's life.
On Feb.7, Tonya Caver, 32, was the only adult in the house with two children: Logan and his 3-year-old stepsister. Caver collapsed on the floor after suffering from an asthma attack and bronchial spasm.
Her stepson stayed calm and called 911.
"I am truly grateful to Logan. I always call him my sidekick, but this time he was a true hero," said Caver. "If it were not for his quick thinking I don't know if I would be alive to tell the tale. Thank you Logan."
Mayor Pugh pinned, certified and thanked him for his act of bravery.
"Every day, we practice with our children, then a situation presents itself and you don't know if they're really going to step up to the plate," said Mayor Pugh. "And Logan, you proved that you are extraordinary."
"What Logan did was not only an act of bravery, he demonstrated the ability to think fast in a crisis situation," said Chief Ford. "This is an incident that could have turned out for the worst, yet we had a 10-year-old who paid attention and aided in saving the life of his stepmother."
