On Monday a building that local artists used as studio space was condemned, forcing them to find new digs to do their work in.

City inspectors received a report that the space was dangerous. Crews responded, finding enough violations to shutter the North Calvert Street building.

The housing authority reported holes in the floor and electrical issues. There were also unconfirmed reports that people were living there without proper use and occupancy permits.

It had been a haven for musicians, filmmakers and artists.

"The Bell Foundry served as a safe space for black and brown artists so my goal rather than the hope is to find a new space for us," said artist, Que Pequeno.

A GoFundMe page has raised almost $13,000 in 24 hours for those forced to leave the property. The page promises to use the money for emergency aid and legal fees.
