Dozens of people are without a home after a transformer fire at a west Baltimore apartment complex.

Fire officials say the fire sparked a little before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at North Carey and Baker Street in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.

The flames started a fire in one apartment as well as on the roof, it also knocked out electricity in the entire building.

Officials did call for buses to be brought in to offer shelter to the dozens of people forced from their homes.

A preliminary survey by BGE shows the transformer that caught fire powers elevator, the other intact transformer may power rest of the building.

Right now there's no word on what caused the fire.
