Amtrak is gearing up for Thanksgiving weekend travel.

The weekend is the busiest travel period for the company. Last Thanksgiving more than 760,000 customers traveled by train.

Amtrak is prepared to accommodate the surge of travelers that will arrive at their stations and will have additional trains and seats for customers.

Amtrak is also offering a red cap service to help with your luggage.

"We have a red cap service, it's a free service. So, if you're bringing all of your luggage with you to grandma's house for Thanksgiving you can bring up to four bags for free and our red caps will help you get that baggage on board the train,” said Amtrak spokesperson Chelsea Kopta.

Amtrak says their busiest travel days are the Tuesday and Wednesday before the holiday and the Sunday after.

For the last-minute travelers, you can still get your tickets. Amtrak suggests booking your trip in the morning and arriving 45 minutes to an hour early.
