Baltimore City Police discovered the stolen red Nissan Rogue SUV Monday. It was parked on North Linwood Avenue, just one-mile from where two men carjacked it at gunpoint.
Sunday around 8:15 p.m., Esha Singh left the SUV running outside of Filippo's Pizzeria while she ran inside for about five minutes to grab food and to speak with her husband.
Family members said her sister-in-law was in the passenger seat, and her four-year-old daughter, Yugnur, was asleep in the back seat.
Surveillance video captured two men walking into the restaurant, and about a minute later the pair turns around and walks out. Edward Schwartzhaupt isn't far behind.
"I came out of the store because they looked suspicious," he said.
Schwartzhaupt said he was standing near the SUV when one of the men asked him for a cigarette. Then they both walked to the passenger side and things turned violent.
"They pulled her out of the vehicle, they had a pistol, what kind of caliber gun, I don't know," Schwartzhaupt said. "She come running around hollering and screaming 'the baby's gone, the baby's gone, the baby's in the car!'"
As the crooks sped off, Schwartzhaupt dialed 911. According to the incident report, Singh was on her way back to the SUV and saw the men heading down the street. The duo got away with her vehicle, and both women’s cell phones.
"We do not believe at the time that the suspects knew there as a four-year-old child in the backseat of the car," said Baltimore City Police Detective Jeremy Silbert.
Luckily, about 15 minutes later, officers found Yugnur a half-mile away. Police said she was standing alone at the corner of Leverton Avenue and South Bouldin Street crying, a terrifying ordeal for a little girl.
"I'm just glad and happy that the child is okay," said Schwartzhaupt. "That's the only thing I worried about."
The pair of carjackers are still on the run. Police say one man was wearing a grey hoodie with an eagle on the back. The second suspect was seen wearing a black jacket.
